Re: THE OFFICIAL 2015 RUGBY WORLD CUP THREAD
Exactly NS.

He's what I would call a Project Player, that is, he needs to be given time to get up to speed before too much expectation is placed on him.

Unfortunately, he was chucked in the deep end, out of position, and then dumped when the team didn't win despite his best efforts.

None of it is his fault at all. He's just not quite good enough right now to be running the show in the centres at a World Cup. Sure, he looked pretty good against Wales and did his job (defence, defence, defence), but he's still a very limited player. He simply needs a lot more time in the game to expand his skill-set, and I'm sure he could comfortably find a spot, although I'd have thought blindside would be better than the centres.

If I was him though, I'd tell the RFU to fuck off, say sorry to Bath, and jump on a flight straight back down to sunny Sydney..

He'll probably make $500k a season playing in the NRL, be with his bros and mum, and be adored again.

Re: THE OFFICIAL 2015 RUGBY WORLD CUP THREAD
Said it before and said it again... there was nothing he done in the RWC that cost England.... far far more of the squad should have had the fingers pointed at them... he was given a birth to do a certain job v Wales which he done... clear daylight between us and Wales when he was on the pitch... he gets taken off midfield gaps galore and Roberts Your fathers Brother we are beaten... he was nowhere near the pitch v Oz' and yet still the snipers like that Mick cunt Darcy were giving him shit loads... the snobbery in RU when comes to the other code ... especially in this country is pretty rancid... I for one if he took the easy way out and returned to RL could not blame him one bit... bad taste in the mouth all round

Re: THE OFFICIAL 2015 RUGBY WORLD CUP THREAD
Oh no, it's not HIS fault NS, far from it.

It's Lancaster, the English RFU, and the majority of the English supporters who expected him to be the saviour.

Anybody with half a brain knew that he was out of his depth, and that it takes way longer than 6 months of full-time rugby to get the hang of it.

Of course, English rugby's loss is English rugby league (and Souths) gain, because I doubt he's going to stick around now.

Why would he?

Re: THE OFFICIAL 2015 RUGBY WORLD CUP THREAD
I said months ago that Burgess wouldn't make it, and I still stand by that.

I didn't think he would even be selected though, because 6 months just isn't long enough to get a handle on the game, when you have no experience to call on.

If the World Cup had been next year, then I reckon he could have been a valuable addition to the England squad, but this year was simply too soon.

Come back to Souths Sammy, nobody cares about your rugby failures there.

Good piece and totally agree....

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-3298538/Sam-Burgess-pawn-game-never-stood-chance-betrayal-league-convert-hide-rugby-union-s-failings.html

His new club, Bath, used him one way. England used him another. Rather than helping him convert, union placed huge obstacles in his way. A star in rugby league, he was ridiculed as a novice in union.

The blame for everything was laid at his door. When Lancaster dropped George Ford and replaced him with Owen Farrell, it was Burgess’s fault. When morale was low, it was Burgess’s fault. When England lost to Wales in that critical Pool A game, it was Burgess’s fault. Except when England played Wales, it seems to have been conveniently overlooked that England were winning until Burgess was replaced midway through the second half.

Without him, the game turned in Wales’ favour and yet it has now become accepted that his inclusion was the reason England lost. The way he was treated was an utter, utter shambles. There are many reasons why it is convenient to blame Burgess. It adds fuel to the fires being built by those who want to pin the blame for what happened to England at their home tournament solely on Lancaster and his coaching team.
